Honey’s Shaved Ice

For 4 years, I wrote a weekly article for D Magazine called The Localist. Each week, I shared one of my favorite locally made food or drink products. 4 years, every week, and there was still stuff to write about.

I love local. It makes my heart happy and my soul rejoice when I see people following their dream, putting themselves out there and stepping into the great unknown with an idea they had all themselves. I especially love when I see people doing a killer job at it. The branding, the esthetic… all of it. And in most of those cases… the owner, the heart and soul behind it… is the one there, on site, doing the actual work.

I was ecstatic to see Honey’s Shaved Ice open just a few miles down from the farm… and just in time for summer! My husband, Evan, has known The Pullen Family his entire life. The Tate’s and Pullen’s are both long time farming & ranching families in Rockwall. Holly Pullen is the creator and owner of Honey’s Shaved Ice. And on our first visit to the cute little yellow and white trailer… there she was in the window… taking everyone’s order.

She’s done a great job with this concept. The Pullen’s have owned this land for years and I never would have imagined something so cute sitting just 200 feet off the main road.

It was just Evan and I on our first visit but Honey’s has lots of fun things for the kids to do while you’re out there. Texas sized checkers game, corn hole and great places for families to sit in the shade.

Evan got the “Oh, hey, vacay!” coconut+pineapple and I got the “Strawberry Summer” strawberry+lemon+lime. They were both s’good!!!

The full menu is great… I would imagine I will try every flavor before the summer is over.

You can find Honey’s Shaved Ice at 6480 S Hwy 205, Rockwall 75032. They are open Tues-Sat from 12pm-7pm.

And if you guys can’t tell… I am doing just fine at finding all of my favorite sweet treat go-to spots in my new home way out here “on the outskirts of town”. 😉
